Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland is often overlooked by visitors to Scotland and with Scotland offering so much its easy to understand why that may be the case. Old Aberdeen is one of the three districts of Aberdeen and it is also Aberdeen’s oldest part.
Saint Machar‘s Cathedral lies at the heart of Old Aberdeen and is built upon the foundations of an early church dating to 6th century. The Cathedral that stands here today dates to the 12th century and contains a phenomenal ceiling made up of 48 coats of arms.
Well worth a visit!
